Impeccable timing!

So, I was just logging in to my blog to plan some posts and get back to posting here again, and I saw that a writer-friend had just posted a comment today! What impeccable timing, and what’s that old adage about, “Things happen for a reason”? Haha!

So, yes, I’m back. I’ve said it time and again, that I feel like I need to keep up with the Jones’ of the writing & blogging world, but I just can’t, so I’m not even going to try anymore. I’m not meant to write daily articles about the freelance writing life, at least not right now — but I can share inspiring tidbits. Freelance writing is only one of my jobs, anyway; I also edit, moderate online communities, and manage social media. I also blog about other subjects, including musical theatre.

I don’t always feel like I “fit in” with other freelance writers, as well as mommy bloggers (since I had a miscarriage in June 2008, and am struggling with some fertility issues). But that’s okay!

Lately I’ve been stumbling upon some great links, videos, quotes, and articles, though — and I want to share that greatness with you. And who knows what else I might share along the way? You never know!

So, as my About page now reads:

When I first started this blog it was for me to write about writing, editing, etc. After I gained a following I felt compelled to “keep up with the Jones’” (i.e., other freelance writers) and try to write informative articles about freelance writing. I’ve since discovered that just isn’t me, my heart isn’t in it. In my opinion, there are more than enough blogs that feature articles about the freelancing life. So, I’ve decided to just be me, and make this blog a smorgasbord of interesting things I discover and want to share, whether they be links to other freelance writing blogs, or videos that pertain somehow, or relevant articles in the news. Along the way I’ll share my creative thoughts (when they occur). I hope you’ll join me in this journey.

(And I apparently like to say, “So.”)

    Julia,

Welcome back. I’ve been blogging for 3 1/2 years, and I write what I want to write. I don’t fit any niche, but my blog is for me. If someone else reads and enjoys, that’s a bonus. If I felt I had to be a blog about freelance writing or book reviews or editing … I’d have given up long ago.

Good for you for deciding to be you.

    Hi Julia
I just received a Google Alert that directed me to your May 17, 2007 post. I’m the author of THE CREATIVE CALL, and I want to thank you for quoting me in that blog. It’s interesting that I came upon your site, because even though I have a new book being released March 1 (in two weeks! YIKES!), I’ve yet to get serious about blogging. Reading your posts and the reader comments has helped me realize I’m not alone. As a writer, I feel I should take to blogging like cockleburs to hiking boots, but like so many of my writer friends I find the whole social networking thing just another distraction from what I feel called to do: write. However, I know that I need to be out there, a “presence on the web,” and so today I’d determined to post my FIRST entry on one of the blogs I’ve already set up. This is just the encouragement I needed to quit fretting about it and go ahead and propel myself into the blogosphere.

    Wish me luck!

Hey Julia! I really enjoy reading writer’s writing about writing but so many of us have just found ourselves so busy with everything else that it feels impossible to “keep up with the Jones” when the “rules” say we need to update our blogs regularly. The stress and frustration got to me so much that I decided to do something about it, and invited writers to come together on a collaborative blogging project.

I turned Writer’s Round-About into a blog that was open to any writer who wanted to write about writing but didn’t want the pressure, expense, or trickling of traffic involved in trying to pull a personal blog out of the mire of the web. We’d love to share the experience with you if you’re interested and ever have something to say about writing that you want to share.

You can find out more here: http://www.writersroundabout.com/2010/01/why-should-you-write-for-writers-round-about.html

Meanwhile, if you don’t join us at WRA, I hope you have a opportunity and the inspiration to post here again. I’ve been missing your wisdom. :-)
